V celosvětovém kontextu se jedná především o teroristické útoky, mimořádné události přírodního charakteru nebo kybernetické hrozby. V prostředí České republiky můžeme hovořit o přírodních hrozbách, které mohou vyústit v mimořádnou událost nebo krizovou situaci. Pokud budeme uvažovat o významných bezpečnostních hrozbách v posledních několika letech, může se jednat především o povodně nebo průmyslové havárie s únikem nebezpečných látek. V průběhu lidské civilizace byla vždy snaha člověka v rámci mimořádné události nebo krizové situace o svou záchranu v podobě evakuace ze zasaženého prostoru. A právě jedním z hlavních opatření ochrany obyvatelstva je individuální a kolektivní ochrana. Kniha zavede čtenáře na krátký historický exkurz vzniku individuální a kolektivní ochrany, seznámí se současnými zavedenými prostředky ochrany dýchacích cest a těla (kůže), jejich vývoje, testování, skladování a ošetřování. Autoři v odborné publikaci popisují i základní prostředky dekontaminace a zdravotnické prostředky jednotlivce. Moreover, one of the main measures to protect the population is individual and collective protection. This book takes the reader on a short historical tour of the genesis of individual and collective protection, introduces the currently established means of protection of the respiratory tract and body (skin), their development, testing, storage and treatment. In the professional publication, the authors also describe the basic means of decontamination and the medical equipment of the individual. A comprehensive part of the book is devoted to the issue of biological agents and medical and veterinary measures in emergency and crisis situations. Finally yet importantly, the issue of sheltering the population in shelters, principles of construction of improvised shelters and activities in them is widely described in the publication. The authors also describe in detail the individual civil protection facilities and the main principles of operation of the staff of these facilities in crises. Emphasis is placed on activities in staff protective equipment dispensaries. This professional book is intended for the lay and professional public. It can also be used for the needs of other university students as a supplementary textbook. Where appropriate, it can also be used for educating members of individual basic and other components of the Integrated Rescue System of the Czech Republic. In addition to a technical description relating to the history of the development and use of nuclear, radiological and chemical weapons, and the cases of radiation and chemical accidents, their destructive effects and principles of protection against them, the monograph also includes original case studies. These case studies are concerned with the consequences of nuclear accidents and incidents such as Three Mile Island (USA, 1979), Chernobyl (Ukraine, 1986), Fukushima (Japan, 2011) and also with hitherto known and potential scenarios of the so-called CBRN terrorism. This title will be followed by another monograph dealing with the issues of biological warfare agents and toxins. A considerable number of publications, technical periodicals and other open domestic and foreign information sources were used in developing this monograph, especially in the field of weapons of mass destruction and protection against them. Moreover, the rich professional experience of all authors of the publication was used since they regularly participate in both domestic and foreign conferences, workshops and symposia focusing on CBRN issues.
