dc.description.abstract This provides an overview of Tomas Bata's (1876-1932) family history as well as that of his son, Thomas Bata Jr (born 1914). She highlights their enormous significance to the development of the Czechoslovak Republic, their admirable approaches to problem solving in connection with setting up new businesses, as well as strategies adopted at a time of opportunity and growth in the world. The family put in place many innovations to a very high level within their industrial empire and further afield, including the social security system, and placed great stress on the development and involvement of every employee. en
